Roseville claimed the Metro Maroon subdistrict title on Friday night, capping a successful regular season for the Raiders. The team defeated Coon Rapids 24-14 to secure the championship, finishing with a 4-4 record. This marks their best performance since 2017, signaling a significant turnaround for the program.
Senior quarterback Chase Browning led the offensive effort, throwing for 162 yards and three touchdowns. The victory provided a morale boost for a team that has struggled in recent years. Browning expressed the team's relief and excitement, noting that the hard work finally began to pay off.
The win positions Roseville as a strong contender for the upcoming Class 6A playoffs. The subdistrict title is a key milestone, but the 4-4 record suggests the team still has room to improve before the postseason begins. The Raiders will look to build on this momentum in the coming weeks.
Elsewhere in the East Metro, Centennial dominated Anoka 38-6. This victory likely locks up a No. 3 seed for the Cougars in the Class 6A playoffs. Anoka was held to just six points, the first time this season the team failed to score in double digits. The result solidifies Centennial's status as a deep playoff contender.
In a closer contest, Mounds View took sole possession of the Metro East subdistrict title with a 22-16 win over White Bear Lake. The Mustangs trailed by two points before taking the lead with 65 seconds left. Quarterback Tanner Jude scored on a one-yard run, and a successful two-point conversion extended the lead to six points. Preston Johnson intercepted a pass on the final possession to seal the victory.
The Mounds View defense played a crucial role, limiting White Bear Lake quarterback Wyatt Stachowiak to six completions on 24 attempts. This defensive performance was the deciding factor in the tight game. The subdistrict title is a significant achievement for the Mustangs as they head into the playoffs.
East Ridge ended a disappointing season with a 42-31 victory over rival Woodbury. Logan Tretter ran for two touchdowns, and Elias Mather returned an interception for a late score. The win provided a positive note for a team that likely did not meet its expectations this year. Forest Lake's Mack Jurkovich had the night's top individual performance, rushing for 245 yards and two touchdowns in a 31-13 win over Stillwater. This locks up a No. 2 seed for the Rangers.
Jurkovich, who has committed to St. Thomas, finished the regular season with 1,600 rushing yards. Park's Manny Vargas also shone, scoring twice in an 18-10 win over Eastview. He caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt 75 yards for a score. The night's most dramatic finish came in the south metro, where Lakeville South's Dylan Nelson kicked a 36-yard field goal with one second left. The Cougars upset Rosemount 17-14, complicating the playoff seeding picture.
