Arsenal and Manchester City are now level on points at the top of the Premier League table after a dramatic Saturday. The Gunners secured a 2-0 victory over Everton in heavy rain at their home stadium, while the Citizens suffered their first defeat of the season away at Aston Villa. Both clubs now hold 21 points after eight matches, creating a tight race for the title.

The path to this parity began with consistent performances from both sides. Arsenal had maintained a three-point lead over their rivals until this weekend. However, the balance shifted when Manchester City lost to a resurgent Aston Villa. That result allowed Arsenal to capitalize on their win and close the gap entirely, setting the stage for a direct clash in the coming weeks.

In north London, the weather set the tone for the match against Everton. Arsenal struck early in the seventh minute when Ezri Konsa scored his first goal for the club. The goal came from a scramble in the box following a corner kick by Martin Odegaard. This set-piece goal was a significant milestone, marking the team's first from a dead ball situation in 13 games.

The second goal arrived in the 68th minute, combining two career milestones. Ben White, playing his 200th match for Arsenal, delivered a cross to the far post. Gabriel, making his 200th Premier League appearance, headed the ball in to seal the victory. Everton finished the game in ninth place, while Arsenal maintained their position at the top.

At Villa Park, the atmosphere was electric as Unai Emery's team secured their first home league win of the season. Nicolas Jackson was the hero, scoring twice against his former club. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a clever pass from John McGinn. Erling Haaland briefly equalized for Manchester City with a header from a free kick, but Jackson restored the lead on the hour mark.

The win moves Aston Villa to sixth place with 11 points. It is also their third consecutive league victory over Manchester City. Jackson noted that the team is focused on progressing game by game. Meanwhile, Manchester City continues to navigate an off-field challenge. An independent commission found the club committed 114 breaches of financial rules, a finding they are currently appealing while denying any wrongdoing.

Other results saw Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 in a historic win at Stamford Bridge. Mathys Tel scored the final goal after Cole Palmer was sent off. In a separate match, Fulham defeated Coventry City 1-0, with Oscar Bobb scoring a late curler to lift the hosts to 13th place.
